Description

The tower stands in the street, was built thanks to the university donation at the beginning of XVI century, has served as a watchtower and defense tower. It was equipped with various guns one of which remained there until 1787 used to shoot blanks in the days of major religious holidays.
At the end of last century, the city donated it to the sculptor Giovanni Maltese (1852-1913) who adapted it as his home and studio. Today it houses the Museum dedicated to the sculptor.
There are works that the sculptor had with him at the time of death. The British painter's wife Fanny Jane Fayrer (1851 Cumberwell Forio 1926), gave the tower, the town of Forio before he died.

The tower dominates with its high amount of the settlement around, within a context of remarkable urban and architectural value, which include some fine eighteenth-century buildings, including Palazzo Covatta, the Palace, located just in front of the tower. The tower, circular and flat roof terraces, spread over three floors, of which the lower one, replacing the base, is dug in the tufa rock on which it stands. The tower is the largest one of Forio: high to dominate the entire village, nestled in a dense network of almost all buildings of exquisite architectural consistency as Covatta Palace (XVIII sec.), The palace of the Tower Street (eighteenth century) and destroyed the Queens Chapel (XVIII c.) until a few years ago, the state of conversation was the best of the coastal towers. Medieval tower of Testaccio

Description

Built in the late fifteenth century. During the Aragonese domination in the south, along with a series of strongholds (eg in S. Angelo, Forio, etc..) Connected to each other, with smoke and fire by night, was used as lookout and refuge for the inhabitants of the ancient village of Testaccio. The tower was equipped with tank and furnace in order to resist the hunger caused by the Saracen sieges. It was later used as a dwelling of a local baron. Abandoned for a long time, only in recent years has been restored and reopened.
Quadrangular, typical Aragonese construction, without basement, rises from white tuff, on two levels; the eastern side has a portal in the center, enhanced by a thin band of Piperno, and surmounted by a balcony opening from minor decorations triangles, and a passage on the north side wall, supported by the arc rampant, connects the second level of the tower with the surrounding buildings.
This tower was the scene of alegend associated with the frequent Saracen raids on the coast of the island.
